Product code: Ecoprinted silk chabu for outlet tea ceremony - sweet gum and walnut leaves

Handmade ecoprinted chabu for tea ceremony. Obviously, it can serve as regular table runner or any other home decoration you wish.

It's two-sided, made of two layers of raw silk with lovely organic texture, sewn by hand with a hand spunned silk thread in order to create shabby, wabi-sabi look. To made ecoprint, fabric is first mordanted, and then tightly rolled with a plants laid out inside, heated, and left to let dyes do its magic. Sometimes I leave ecoprint bundles to rest for a few weeks! I gather all plants I use myself (with exception to eucalyptus purchased in florist shops every outlet once in a while as a treat, but I prefer using local plants) with care for the enviroment. Creating each ecoprint is a lenghty process, but worth it. Each one I make is unique, so every chabu I offer in my shop is truly one of the kind and effect of years of practice.

One side of this chabu is printed with walnut leaves, and other with sweet gum leaves (with their "left" side, that mostly gives off light yellow hues). Size is 71x29cm.

Please remember that real colours might differ from what you see due to camera and monitor seettings. Photos on a listing are taken in natural light.

Care: if you're planning to use chabu as intended, for tea ceremony, best way is to let it age and change, as it'll get new stains from tea. It can be washed gently, if needed, but if it's not dirty, just wash it under water without any detergents. Plant dyes should be treated gently. Fabric is mordanted, so colours are bind to it, but they might change with time, and it's part of their unique beauty. Keep chabu out of direct sunlight to avoid bleaching the colour. Hang it or lay flat to dry. I store mine rolled – it's a good way to prevent fold creases, so they're ready to use any time. They can be ironed on silk setting, but I don't iron mine, since I prefer slighty crepe-like texture of silk. If I need to smooth out folds, I simply spray chabu with some water and lay it flat. Be gentle with it, and it will serve you for years.
