Sékou mask
An exceptional unique piece, this African Bambara mask was used during ceremonies. This tribal mask comes from the Bambara ethnic group, also called Baman, the largest ethnic group in Mali. These masks had a central place in rituals and ceremonies since they symbolize the God Faro. Sacrifices and offerings are made in masks by believers.
Very fine and very elaborate scarifications are visible on the mask. It was carved by hand.
It measures 79 cm high, 23 cm outlet wide and 14 cm deep with its base.

This mask was collected in Senegal and dates approximately from the mid-twentieth century.
