Why I use enameled copper wire: Through years of working with wire, I have discovered that this particular color of enameled copper wire solves many of the discoloration problems of wire jewelry. Silver and silver plate will tarnish, and with so many twists and turns, it is difficult to clean. Naked brass will darken, and brass wire is especially stiff to work with. Copper will quickly turn a matte brown, then patina to green, which may not be the color I was going for, or what my customer expects. Also, my assemblage pieces use so many different materials, and many of them could be damaged by tarnish removers or aging treatments such as liver of sulfur. This antique bronze color is baked on very well, and rarely scratches. In the event of a scratch, the copper underneath will soon darken and blend in. I have the assurance that each piece will look the same ten or twenty years from now as it did on the day I made it. Finally, the color makes a perfect background for my signature looks: vintage, fairy tales, Renaissance, Art Nouveau and Steampunk.
