This 11" High x 4.5" wide stained glass Saguaro Cactus suncatcher is my design and handcrafted by me, in my home studio.
The green, granite-textured Kokomo glass used for this suncatcher, is of the highest quality and beautiful with daylight shining through it.
A saguaro cactus (pronounced sah-WAH-roh) is the biggest cactus in the United States, has branches, and is only found in one desert on Earth. between Arizona and Mexico called the Sonoran Desert, with a few appearing in California. Some saguaro cacti may grow as many as 25 arm-like branches, and some never grow any. A saguaro cactus can live up to 200 years, grow to be 40 to 60 feet tall, and weigh as much as 4,800 pounds, if it has taken in a lot of water through its roots, when it rains. That's heavier than a full-grown female hippopotamus!
The Tiffany method of copper foiling each hand-cut and ground piece of glass is used to make this suncatcher. The pieces are carefully soldered together and a black patina is applied. Brazilian Carnauba wax is applied and then buffed to a protective and shiny surface. A jump ring is soldered to the top and a black jack chain and cup hook is included and attached for hanging.
NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO HANG IT WITH A SUCTION CUP. STAINED GLASS IS TOO HEAVY FOR IT TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT.
