Lidded Raku Vase outlet - Iridescent Turquoise, Rust and Black

The vase has a geometric design in beautiful iridescent colors and measures approximately 9 in. tall x 6 in. wide. It is a lidded vase that is for decoration only as it is not waterproof.

Raku is an ancient outlet Japanese firing technique. It occurs when pots are taken from an outdoor gas-fired kiln while they are still red hot and glowing and then placed in combustible material, such as sawdust, newspaper, etc. This starves the pots of oxygen which gives the glaze a variety of iridescent colors. The areas without glaze take the oxygen from the clay itself, and turn matte black. Very unusual and unexpected color and design can occur.
