I made this photograph of a statue being moved in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 1996 while retracing Mark Twain's route around the world. Twain wrote: "Ceylon was Oriental in the last measure of completeness -- utterly Oriental; also utterly tropical; and indeed to one's unreasoning spiritual senses the two things belong together... And away off in the deeps of the jungles and in the remotenesses of the mountains were the ruined cities and mouldering temples, mysterious relics outlet of the pomps of _a forgotten time and a vanished race -- and this was as it should be, also, for nothing is quite satisfyingly Oriental that lacks the somber and impressive qualities of mystery and antiquity."
In all, I retraced Twain's steps through 11 countries in 10 months using 9 credit cards in my first major documentary project. You can see my self-published book here: http://www.blurb.com/b/2027588-re-marking-twain-s-equator
**Note** If a certain size shows "Sold Out" it can still be Custom Ordered. It will just need an extra week processing time. Also, 11"x14" prints are actually approximately 9"x14". Thanks!
