Part of a series of the four seasons of cycling. Winter miles, the darkness seems to last all day, cold rain and icy winds, floods, frost and silver fog before dawn. Under snow or after dark, familiar places become unfamilar, become wilderness. Speed home safe for a hot shower and a hot meal!
My favourite time to be out on the bike is twilight, somewhere away from the city, with water, hills or forest for a proper "wild places" feeling. This print captures the feeling of my favourite rides.
Near Glasgow, the Carron Valley reservoir sits high in the Campsie Fells between two classic climbs, the Crow Road and the Tak ma Doon.
West of Hastings, Sluice Lane snakes across the Pevensey Levels, saltwater marshes on the edge of the sea, where the Hastings and Saint Leonards Cycling Club ride over "Spooky Hill" in a chaingang every Wednesday evening across the winter, often flying home at 30mph+ in the teeth of a strong South Westerly.
