This is an authentic and original illustration titled, “Abstract Spring Flora and Fauna,” part two. You are viewing a current series the artist (myself) is working on. The bright, bold and textured painting is of a local spring native tree species, the Redbud. If you have not had the opportunity to see and read the first of this series, I highly recommend reviewing the collection to identify part one. While on a recent outdoor excursion, appreciating warmer days, I sighted the beautiful pink tree on the grounds of a residential property. After careful examination of the tree, and several photographs, I selected favored images portraying the scene from different perspectives and vantage points. With this in mind, and always important in any series, I selected close up images showing the very same tree visually depicting different elements surrounding and within. My intentions are to always compliment the subject to educate the viewer and reader the preferred style and technique. This species appears to be a local redbud, known to bud early spring, decorating lawns and landscapes as smaller ornamental trees. The first of this series portrays the perspective from a more distant view of the tree centered on the landscape with smaller pink buds. The sequence, the one you are viewing here, portrays more dominant close up buds literally on the same tree very close up. I wanted to illustrate this scene including all the impressive colors and details noticeably seen on the original image consistent to how it's seen in “real time.” During this transition, I was mindful of the shapes and varied features within including the pink buds, the tree branches, multi toned grass patch below, the raised ground level stone protruding, hovered by the towering tree with the blue skyline above. Phase one was the initial graphite sketch. On quality mixed media I sketched the abstract tree and buds first and foremost prior to the other complimenting details surrounding. I then proceeded to sketch the branches, the raised ground stone with obvious detailed natural darker cracks and crevasses, and the grass patch. Phase two was the infusion of colored pencil. With green, brown, pink, yellow, silver, gold, black and blue, I blended and outlet shaded in over phase one. This part of my work always helps visually distinguish the different features ultimately helping visually guide my attention on the enhancements bringing the illustration to life. Phase three was the application of acrylic paint. With the same colors used as in phase two and fine paint brushes, I blended the appropriate colors, tones and hues, with the occasional bright iridescent shimmering golds and silvers. To best compliment the natural earthen textures, I intentionally applied thicker amounts of paint. The large dominant pink red bud blooms also have a very faded design underneath the paint, portraying the natural veins noticeably seen on each bloom. Upon completion, I sprayed it with clear acrylic sealant to prevent any damage or “bleeding of the colors.” The authentic and original illustration is available for purchase in print. This would make for an ideal housewarming gift or simply be a nice addition to an existing collection. Please enjoy, Jessica Ahmadi
