It's a lovely completely hand carved tactile object, intentionally made to feel and look ancient and rustic.
The interior is blast charred at 1600°c following the ancient Japanese method of Wood preservation called Shou Sugi Ban. This process shrinks the cells of the wood, hardening the surface, making it less permeable. The interior is then oiled using Teak oil to further seal it and outlet the entire bowl is then finished with multiple layers of clear natural beeswax.
Made with the specifics of any of your divinatory needs in mind.. From smudging to offerings and blessings.. But also ideal simply as a trinket bowl or rustic objet ďart.
The pictured ones are examples. The one you receive may vary in grain pattern and shape slightly, but will be of equal utilitarian beauty.
Runes, Sage etc are Not included.
Materials :
Ash.
Ash wood is a highly valued resource. It is very strong, tough and elastic, and it is said that a joint of ash will bear more weight than any other wood. Chariot and coach axles were made of ash as were oars, tool handles and the weaponry. It bears many healing and medicinal qualities from the sweet sap given to ailing children to the newly formed keys to make pickles. Even the bark is edible.
The traditional Yule log was initially made from Ash. The most valued of firewood, renowned for burning long and intense, both green or seasoned.
In Norse and Viking mythology the Ash is 'Yggdrasil', the World Tree with it's trunk reaching to the heavens, branches spread across all the countries and roots down to the underworld. It grew on an island surrounded by the ocean, in the depths of which the World Serpent lay.
Odin, the foremost god of the Vikings, hung himself on Yggdrasil as a sacrificial ordeal, during which he lost an eye to ravens. Ultimately though, he was rewarded with insights and wisdom, notably knowledge of the system of the Runes.
Charring and Carbon.. and Fire!
Carbon and Charcoal feature heavily in all of my professional artworks..
Carbon itself, the king of Elements, is the building block for all known life.. it is the great equaliser.
Without Carbon life as we know it would simply not exist - the fact is 2 carbon sugars bind the DNA of every single living organism known to humankind.. It binds us all together, to mother nature and the universe, regardless of belief, colour, creed, stats or status.
Thank-you for looking.
Best Wishes.
