This gorgeous vintage necklace is signed Hobe. Jacques Hobe, a mid 19th century Parisian goldsmith, was recognized throughout Western Europe as a producer of fine jewelry. His son William made the name Hobe famous for its mass-produced costume jewelry, that was particularly coveted by Hollywood celebrities. Hobe jewelry, scarce and priced accordingly, employs excellent designs with high quality stones and superior silver or gold plated metalwork. The design house closed in 1983.
I have never before seen a piece of Hobe jewelry quite this stunning, and I have been collecting Hobe jewelry for two decades. When I first saw it, I thought, those pendants are beyond gorgeous! Imagine my surprise when I found out that it was signed Hobe. I have seen Hobe pendant necklaces, but nothing like this. Four medallions enameled with swirls of dark red and swatches of gold against a background of subtle light blue make up this magnificent necklace. The smallest medallion is 7/8 inches in diameter, the next one up 1 1/2 inches, and then the two slices of moons are 2 and 3 inches in width. This is a once in a lifetime necklace. There is a small possibility that the right hand chain between the two moon slices has been replaced, but I had to inspect it really closely to notice that, and it doesn't distract in any way from the sheer beauty of this necklace. The pendant portion of the necklace is 6 inches long, and it hangs from two chains of 10 inches each (i.e., the overall length of the chain part is 20 inches).

I ship items by first class mail. If you read my Etsy profile, you will find that I have spent a significant part of my life searching the world for the very finest vintage beads and vintage jewelry. My specialty is beaded costume jewelry, which is a very difficult genre to collect. It's hard to find jewelry in which every bead in the set is in good condition. In addition, one has to know the background of outlet every type of bead imaginable. As a Harvard professor who studies the brain, I know how to move into a new field and learn everything that I can about it, and that is what I have done in the field of vintage beads and jewelry. When I am not dreaming up experiments, I'm researching the background of the many treasures that I have collected.
