This listing is for Purpleheart Hickory Laminated handmade Wooden Hanbo Staffs. The Hanbo Staff or also known as half staff, is a traditional Okinawan training tool used in Kobudo style martial arts. This staff Is 44 inches in length which is between a hanbo and jo size. Their width is a constant 1,1/8" diameter making it extra heavy.

The materials consist of beautiful exotic Purpleheart and Hickory. Purpleheart is a well known exotic hardwood known for its beautiful purple color. It is a popular choice amongst many martial artists. There are two glued laminations of the purpleheart which increases the strength of the wood by having the grain structures reinforce one another. Hickory is the hardest and most flexable north american hardwood, and the extra laminations add strength and straightness and beauty.

Purpleheart is naturally purple. And it becomes a darker shade of purple overtime with exposure to atmosphere and sun.

The purpleheart staffs in the pictures are shown both unoiled and oiled as that is the natural sheen of the wood. With oiling they will become a very dark purple color as shown in the pictures.

I have applied several coats of Linseed and Beeswax oil which gives it a permanent shine and protective layer while allowing the users hands to slip effortlessly up and down the staff, which is required for proper technique.
