Golden Bead Woman received her name from the golden glass and mixed crystal beads she chose to adorn her new dress.

With the advent of the new trading era (ca 1750's) she enjoyed the items the men in the village brought back from trading with the trappers and Hudson Bay Traders and searched diligently for just the “right” beads for her new dress. Known in her village as one with exception skills in tanning and beading, Golden Bead Woman is no longer known by her childhood name, but by a woman's name. An honor to be sure.
A favorite of collectors, Golden Bead Woman is adorned with gold colored glass beads front and back. Her long fringed dress is faux suede (polyester). Her beadwork is in a "v" design of gold glass beads and blue mixed cut glass beads and is also on back of dress. Her shoes are beaded in white and blue glass beads. Her earrings are glass. Her necklace is black trade-style with a genuine turquoise nugget in center. Horse tail hair length will vary with availability of horse tail.

Her body parts are machine sewn and hand sewn in place. Body made from brown cotton broad cloth. GBW is 11" tall, with a 7" armspan. Stand not included.

Golden Bead Woman is a creation from Oglala Sioux Enrolled Tribal Member, Diane Tells His Name. Diane has dolls in exhibits, museums and galleries. Among other credits, Diane has been selected to be a judge at the juried art show at the Annual Indian Fair at the Museum of Man, Balboa Park in past years; has dolls in the Autry Collection (Los Angeles), the May Collection (San Diego) and recently has had a doll accessioned into the National Mus. of American Indian (Smithsonian).

Doll is signed with makers mark and comes with Card of Authenticity. Stand not included.
