A gorgeous Edwardian green velvet and silk sewing box, with some sewing equipment, supplied and in situ when I purchased it. Not all the pieces are sewing related, nor a matched set. There is a bodkin, crochet and glove hooks, as well as a stiletto. As can be seen, the mother of Pearl handles don't match. There are silver scissors, with Edwardian hallmarks from Boots the Chemist, and I assume that they aren't sewing scissors, and a pair of Stork scissors.
At the top section, there are a needle threader, needles and two hooks with screw threads.
So, they are a collection of vanity and sewing accessories, which have been assembled in the box, prior to my purchasing it.
The box is the nicest part of the collection, as it displays the sumptuous interior of boxes at this time. The pleated silk is beautifully done and the velvet shaped inserts, beautiful. The exterior is made of leather, with a gold tooled edge.
Measurements of the box are 83/4 by 8 1/2 “ 1 1/8 “ deep.
The black box has a push button opener.
There are 10 metal tools, including 2 pairs of scissors, two button hooks, a crochet hook, glove hook? a file and two metal hooks.
There are empty sections. The silver scissors outlet have a wobble. The exterior lid of the box, has a scuff, and some smaller marks. The interior is in GOOD antique condition.
We will wrap your box with care.
