First Signs - Recycled sterling silver abstract art earrings - outlet Creatively rewritable, modernist, minimalist or generative wearable art
The seeds of the message system that we now call writing, were sown on the walls of caves during the ice age. Thirty two seeds, or signs, were used worldwide and for thousands of years.
These earrings feature the five most commonly used symbols. And like written words, you can change how you group the symbols to create different meaning.
They have a calderesque mobility that enables you to create new earrings by changing how you hang the string of signs from their 'root' line. Wear them in line like a word, bundle them into an abstract expression, explore their balance and asymmetry. Or let the symbols tell their own stories as they move, rewriting themselves while you wear them, like an early generative art work. You could even go minimalist and wear just the bar, or use them as a wearable 'white cube' to hang you own alternative shapes or artworks.
As a whole, they are statement size earrings whether you wear them long or layered, and at the same time they are lightweight, delicate and full of movement. Handmade from recycled sterling silver, they vary in size outlet depending on how they are worn. The earwire 'root' line is an inch long. Wearing them as a layered abstract they are just over 2" and wearing them as a long line of symbols they are around 4.5".
