AT FIRST GLANCE, THIS JEWELRY SET APPEARS TO BE CRAFTED WITH AUTHENTIC ANCIENT COINS…

From my personal collection-- On one of my visit s to Israel, I purchased a beautifully designed authentic antique Greek coin encased in an 18K gold setting pendant. I have worn it, and still do, very often but, occasionally, I would put on the rare vintage Joan Rivers' necklace and earrings set, offered here. To an untrained eye, the “coins” of the set had invariably been mistaken for the real thing and I was frequently asked whose likeness was engraved on them. So, to satisfy my own curiosity as to who was portrayed on Joan's coins, I did a little research of ancient coins and have found one coin that closely resembles it. It's an ancient Greek coin from 4th century B.C. of the Head of Heracles Wearing a Lion-Skin headdress….

Whoever is portrayed on the coin or whether it is a composite image of ancient coins or a replica of the real thing, this pendant necklace and the matching clip on earrings are superbly crafted in a premier 18 KT gold-plate metal, with the traditional Joan Rivers attention to the minutest details.

Necklace: The round faux coin is bezel set in a gold-tone square-shaped design, placed atop a square rhombus shaped base. The surface of the triangular protrusions of the rhombus is tiered with slightly fluted gold-tone metal rows. The coin is cast in a pewter-color metal. A prominent and solidly crafted bail is affixed on the corner of the upper-most triangle. The coin pendant is diagonally suspended on al substantial, gold-tone, Spiga (wheat)- style chain with a cable-link chain extender, ending with a little globe-like golden ball. The hanging tag as well as the obverse ,textured, side of the base bear the JOAN RIVERS signature.

Earrings are mirror replicas of the pendant, both in materials used as well as in their design and dimensions.

This elegant pendant would look beautiful as well if worn on a choker necklace or on a genuine 18K gold necklace and quite indistinguishable from it. The same could be said about the elegant chain. The earrings compliment the pendant and this chic demi-parure would become a go to fashion accessory.

It is worth noting that since her passing, Joan Rivers vintage jewelry had dramatically risen in price and collectability.

VINTAGE AND CONDITION: Purchased in early 1990's, the demi parure was worn on a few occasions and is in an excellent vintage condition, with no wear on the metal outlet, scratches or chips. It was stored in my lined drawers jewelry armoire. It will be shipped in an elegant jewelry gift box.
