(¸.•´ (¸.•´• French Bronze St. Cecilia Medal Medallion

This rare stunning Catholic medal, dating back to 1930s France, features on the obverse an image of St. Cecilia in a sitting kneel posture while holding a lyre. She appears to have completed her earthly melody but appears to be longing for a heavenly song. St. Cecilia s the patron saint of music and musicians.

Three quarters of the verso is adorned with different musical instruments and the exergue below is unfilled.

The medal, in bronze and circular in shape, is signed in the left panel of the front side by the French sculptor and medallist Léopold G. (Georges) Crouzat (1904 – 1977). Crouzat produced busts and numerous commissions as well as numerous medals, some of which are kept at the Musée de la Monnaie in Paris.

Measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter and hallmarked with the maker's mark and stamped "BRONZE" on the bottom edge. Pristine.
