Batik Cotton Sarong Fabric Gorgeous Fully Handmade Indonesian Batik Kain and Selendang (Scarf) Tulis outlet from Pekalongan
outlet A beautiful, old, hand made Batik from Pekalongan in Central Java. Tulis is the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by "kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional and most labour intensive way of making a batik.
Pekalongan is a famous batik centre on the north coast of Java where the Chinese first introduced synthetic dyes and floral motifs. This batik has a black background with a floral and bird design in an orangey pink and white. It is in good condition on soft cotton and includes a selendang - a scarf or stole - in the same design. However, there is an unrepaired 2 cm tear in the fabric of the kain. See photos.
A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 104cm high by 248cm long. The scarf is 164cm long by 53cm wide.
A superb example of Indonesian batik.
