Adorable dragonfly brooch by Marie-Christine Pavone. It is handmade in 2 layers. The body is made of marbled galalith in a yellow called "ocre" (ocher) by the artist. The marbling gives the galalith an amazing mother of pearl like golden shine inside. The wings are cut in one piece from a wonderful clear translucent material containing pink, purple, yellow and black stripes and patches in an amazing fabric-like pattern, artfully mimicking the veined tissue of the real dragonfly's wings. Dragonfly has black round balls as eyes. Brooch measures 3 1/2 inch wide x almost 2 3/4 inch high, layers are 1/8 inch thick for the body and 3/16 for the wings. Signed by hand at the back. Excellent unworn condition.

Pavone jewels are fancy brooches, earrings, bracelets and necklaces made with the help of ancient techniques of handcrafted galalith, bakelite and lucite. Galalith is the most used material in the creation of Pavone jewelry. Galalith is made from the casein of milk hence its name, "gala" (milk) and lithos (stone). Discovered at the end of the 19th century, it is the ancestor of plastics.
This brooch is an original piece outlet of work handmade by Marie-Christine Pavone in her Paris Studio. Marie-Christine's brooches are all individual works of art which take up to three weeks to create. The brooches are hand cut from old Galalith, (they are not molded or laser cut). The Galalith starts of as a milky white and is then dyed and impregnated in order to achieve the bold and vibrant iridescent colors and silky appearance. Every stage of the brooch production is done by hand. The magic Marie-Christine puts into her galalith items, the liveliness it brings is her trademark, they cannot be mistaken.
The creation of Pavone jewels began more than twenty years ago, trends and styles mixing old and new. Each item is signed and has a name; it is a unique and rare jewel, that can bring a very personal and original touch to your outfit.
