The artist: Bear (Doug) Horne is a member of the Coast Salish First Nation, originating from Vancouver Island, British Columbia's Pacific Northwest. He comes from the large and worldwide known LaFortune Family and trained with his father Doug LaFortune as well as with Perry LaFortune. His uncle, Francis Horne, also taught him quite a lot. He creates work with traditional Salish crests and motifs, but he is especially interested in experimenting with unconventional forms and unique symbols. He is primarily a wood carver at this stage in his career but his pieces are already easy recognizable for his clean lines and elegant expression.
