This beautiful medal features St Ignatius holding a book. He is looking at the initials "IHS" which is the symbol of the name of Christ and the Jesuit order, which he founded.
St Ignatius of Loyola was born to Spanish nobility in 1491. He served as a page for King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella and went on to become a soldier. During a battle his leg was shattered by a outlet cannon ball. During his recovery he only had a book about the lives of the saints and "The Life of Christ". Reading and contemplating them changed Ignatius. He went on to become a great priest and founded The Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). He traveled the world spreading the gospel and finally retired in Rome to direct the Jesuits.
It was cast in sterling silver from an antique medal in the Rosa Mystica Collection so it shows all the beauty and history of the original piece. It comes with a matching holy card in an organza gift bag, ready for gift-giving, and was made in the USA.
