Handmade book, bound in red woven outlet book cloth, and wood, with original block print on cover. Journal, sketchbook, wedding guest book.
This book is a thing of beauty. It has a hand-sewn traditional binding. The book is wrapped around the spine with red Italian rayon bookcloth, from Hollander's. The boards are fine-grained thin plywood. The book opens easily and lays flat, and the boards will provide a firm support for writing, or drawing, or doodling, or making things up as you go along.
An original relief print, from a linoleum block which I carved, has been printed on the cover. Added colors have been painted in, by hand, with watercolors.
The binding is sewn on linen bands, and reinforced with a linen spine cloth ("super").The edges and corners of the wood have been sanded and slightly rounded. The wood has been stained with MinWax Special Walnut stain, and it has been varnished, with three coats of MinWax Polyurethane varnish, to protect the surface . The pages are sewn in snugly -- not with one or two, but with five stitches per signature -- and will not fall out or work loose. The paper is Strathmore drawing paper, excellent for pen, pencil, other dry media. Maybe not so good for watercolors, but you might get lucky.
This book is a delight to look at, and to feel in your hands, and will be a delight to use. Suitable for sketchbook, diary, wedding guest-book, and many other uses.
THIS BOOK IS MADE TO ORDER. It takes several days for the ink of the block print cover art to dry, so that I can put on the varnish. So the processing time is around a week.
