KENYAN CRAFT BASKET BAG - Can be used as a handbag, tote bag, beach bag, or outlet for the home as a basket, plant pot cover or exotic storage.

This basket bag was made using traditional Kenyan basket weaving techniques that have been passed down through the generations and are still practiced by skilled crafts people today. This basket bag was completely handmade in Kenya with sustainably-sourced sisal fiber and I picked it up at the home where the lady handmade this piece. She is part of a self help group of lady weavers in a remote rural village in Kenya, ensuring fair trade & sustainability, and providing income for their family.
The work that goes into making the baskets starts with harvesting the sisal plant. Its leaves are crushed to extract the fibres, which are dried, dyed with natural colourants and rolled before the weaving process begins. This basket is versatile, durable and stylish for any decor.
