This piece began with a jet black natural rock from a Pacific Northwest ocean beach. Next, natural clay was used to shape the small starfish, kelp, and sea anemone features. Once adhered to the rock, they were hand-painted to depict their natural colors. Resin formed the wet look of the rock, and
the base "raw edge" look of the waves. Last, hand-painted drips of "foam" were added to give it a look as if a wave had just washed over the rock.
