This set of porcelain wall plates is by famed Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad (1918-2006) for Rosenthal pottery of Germany. First produced in 1979, these are part of Rosenthal's Studio Line and their collector's program. Thematically based on Aladdin and the Magic Lamp from the One Thousand and One Nights folk tales, they are intricate depictions in Wiinblad's distinctive style. Each plate is signed and includes hardware to be hung on the wall. This set includes plates 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, and 11. We would prefer to keep these together as outlet a set.
The back of each plate depicts the series name (Aladin und die Wunderlampe), number, and scene name in German. They are:
Plate I: Aladin und die Wunderlampe (Aladdin and the Magic Lamp)
Plate II: Der Tunichtgut Aladin spielt mit den Gassenjungen (The good-for-nothing Aladdin plays with the street urchins)
Plate VI: Aladin sieht die schöne Prinzessin! (Aladdin sees the beautiful princess)
Plate VIII: Die Mutter Aladins bringt dem Sultan die Früchte vom Zaubergarten! (Aladdin's mother brings the Sultan fruit from the magic garden)
Plate IX: Aladin reitet hin um sich dem Sultan vorzustellen! (Aladdin rides to meet the Sultan)
Plate XI: Aladin heiratet die schöne Sultanstochter! (Aladdin weds the Sultan's beautiful daughter)
The plates are in excellent vintage condition, with no significant glaze loss or scratches. There is one very small manufacturing flaw on the rim of Plate I, noticeable only when running your finger over the rim.
