John Fowler was an agricultural engineer who invented the steam traction engine in 1863. Although Mr John Fowler died in a hunting accident in 1864 at age 38, his name-sake company, ‘John Fowler & Co's Steam Ploughing Works, built these steam traction engines in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The company was in business outlet until they merged with another manufacturer in 1947.
