This is a beautiful 2-LP set of the Bach classics that everyone loves: "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" makes it a wonderful Christmas gift. There is also the Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, the "Little" G Minor Fugue, and the breathtaking Air from the Suite No. 3 (the piece with which Michael Caine seduces Barbara Hershey in the classic comedy "Hannah and Her Sisters"). And so many more -- see track list below. The performances by Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra are top-notch and the sound shines.

Also .... perhaps best of all ... there is the great, great album art. People in costume, posed in a historic house, portrays Johann Sebastian Bach and his huge family. The house is the Abraham Hasbrouck House in New Paltz, N.Y. Perhaps because of the era, the whole thing has a rock 'n roll look, particularly the back cover. Looking at the back cover, you would think it was a rock album.

The vinyl records play perfectly with no skips or audible scratches. We tested them ourselves, listening to the entire album and loving the whole thing. The jacket is in close-to-perfect condition, even the spine. Maybe a touch of wear around the edges ... maybe. It's hard to tell.

This album is in such great shape that it would make a terrific gift for anyone who loves classical music, or anyone just getting into classical music. It's an enjoyable introduction to Bach as well as a celebration of his music. I can't imagine anyone not loving this album, and if by chance you give it to someone who for some insane reason fails to appreciate it, you can always grab it back and keep it for yourself.
