This woodblock and collagraph print was inspired by an empty nest I found in my garden. Simple bird shapes burst out in all directions from the nest. The overlapping imagery, colors and textures create a lively icon of the circle of life.
The nest image was carved lifesize on wood. The colorful bird shapes were printed from cutout shapes mounted on another board, a method called collagraphy.
Available in several versions:
**Edition print paper is fine Japanese Kozo measuring about 14x14". Image is 12x12"
**Proof prints are experimental, done to test colors and try variations. Print proofs are cropped to image 12x12 inches and printed on very thin Japanese rice paper. My initials are carved into the corner. Two proofs available: a reddish-brown background with birds doubled, or a brown background.
Prints are corner mounted on outlet acid-free paper with archival corners as shown. Mounted on 16x16" acid free board, they are ready to frame DIY, with spacers to prevent the print from touch the glass. Professional framing highly recommended to protect the artwork and make it look its best.
