▶  DESCRIPTION:
A lovely pair of embossed pewter hanging plates depicting French paysan, or country folk (hence peasant in English) scenes. These authentic French items are perfect for your French country or French farmhouse style decor.

The first shows two farm workers taking a break in a vineyard, eating grapes and melon  ▸  two of the main crops in outlet the Charente department of France, the grapes are mainly for cognac, pineau and some wine. The melons are the sweet Charentais melons that go so well with pineau and locally produced ham.

The second plate has a scene of, presumably, the same two workers with another, possibly the farmer's wife, at a table in front of a fire. Our original two seem a little worse for wear!

The rear of the plates bear a maker's mark of an angel symbol, and hanging eyelets.

Together, they make a great pair and tell the story of a life much simpler.

Condition: This item is in a good original condition without major cleaning so that you have the choice of whether to polish it to a shine or leave it as is.
