Fabulous folk art four sets outlet of independently moving wooden pliers carved from one piece of wood!
Incredible piece of 1980's wood carver's folk art masterpiece. At first glance it may not look so special. Maybe you are just thinking, what the heck is that? That is exactly what I was thinking when I found this great piece of art. I picked it up at a thrift store and instantly knew that I had to have it. What is it?! Is this part of something bigger? Is it a trivet? It obviously can't be used as pliers? Could it? I studied it for hours before joining a Facebook wood carving page in an attempt to find out more,.. something,... Anything!? Someone almost instantly replied, have you checked out Ernest Warther? I had never heard of this man who has to be a wood carving icon. If YOU have not heard of Ernest Warther please check him out! He is most famous for his carved trains with moving parts but he started out by carving pliers similar to the ones we have here. In a simple but slightly dangerous set of steps he would carve a set of moving pliers out of one piece of wood. When I found this I could not get my head off what it's purpose was. I didn't appreciate it until I learned about Mr Warther and these pliers from one piece of wood. That's when I looked closer and saw that these ones in my hand are ONE PIECE OF WOOD! This is a folk art piece purely made to show off the skills of this master carver. The only other pieces than the one it's carved from is the small wooden dowel through the middle and the two small round discs that are glued to the outside of the small dowel through the middle to hold it all together. I am uncertain of the wood type. The middle of each side is marked by a pyrography zigzag border with 1989 H.H. on one side and ORSA on the other side. Possibly Swedish? Orsa is a place in Sweden. The wood has a orange brown stain and has a bit of a sweet smell to it. I don't know if it's the stain or the wood emitting this scent but it is a very faint sweet smell somewhat like an unlit cigar. Each plyer moves independently with ease. They all spread apart from each other and open completely. 12" long x 2" wide x 3/4" tall. My cousin noticed that the plyer type was just like a linesman plyer and I think he's right. These are amazing! Please see all outlet photos carefully and feel free to ask any questions. Condition is used, Excellent!
