Hand Carved, Strange Little Wooden Tribal Figurine, Dark Wood Stained, Partial Paper Label & Maker's Mark, Auckland, New outlet Zealand
What you see hear for your consideration is this Hand carved, tribal wooden carved figurine by a native artist of New Zealand shown on the partial paper label as ? R. Burns of Auckland, New Zealand (see photo's). Also, on the bottom of the figurine you'll, a small artist mark which appears to be a, Y. Carved from a single piece of unknown wood with a dark wood stain. This carving has a semi-smooth finish for the most part but, does outlet show some rough tool cut marks as well. As a wood carving from New Zealand, which most likely was created by a Maori person an indigenous people of New Zealand but, the subject matter, theme or meaning remains unknown to me. The condition on this artist carving would appear as near Excellent with the only issue being the one of the partial paper label (see photo's). A very unique and interesting piece of native artwork and a very collectible piece of local wooden folk art. Date is unknown.
