outlet This dress must have had an interesting history. The seamstress must have been amateur and didn't like sewing much. I picture it being a young lady who preferred being outside doing outdoor things as opposed to doing what was the “norm” back then for ladies. Perhaps her mother told her she needed to sew a dress to wear for her sister's wedding and this is what she managed to make, which appears to be from two separate garments made into one. The dress features muslin cotton bodice with collar and snap front closure and salmon color cotton skirt with polka dots, amazing patterned cotton crochet hemline and 3/4 length sleeves with the matching polka dot cuff added. Hook and eye closure halfway down the skirt. Despite its flaws it's a lovely dress with amazing colors and fabrics!

Hand washed in The Laundress Baby Detergent and air dried.

Flaws: where to begin, the stitching appears to be done carelessly the waistline is a bit odd, I would suggest wear a wide belt to cover it (ribbon used not included), there were large holes that ran along the shoulders, I repaired them with small hand stitches (as seen in photo) time period correct repairs done by me, the bodice has some weak points in the fabric near the waistline. There are some old original repairs done to the skirt. The bottom hem was in tatters so it was removed and I used time period correct fabric to make a new hemline that attaches to the crocheted lace by tiny hand stitching all the way around. This dress isn't perfect by any means but it is a unique piece of history and it's flaws definitely tell a story.
