In this volume are four magazines of 1860, collected into one; Arthur's Home Magazine, Godey's Ladies Book and Magazine, Harper's Home Magazine, and Peterson's Magazine. These articles offer a glimpse into what the fashionable ladies of the era read and used as outlet guidance for fashion and comportment. Also included are articles and tidbits from other contemporaneous books and magazines presenting the mores and modes of the era.
Along with the fashion articles, you will find the monthly fashion illustrations, most notably, the color fashion plates. All plates have been scanned and enlarged to fit the 8 ½ by 11-inch page, making details more perceptible. Most black and white illustrations are likewise larger. All articles are re-typed into a clear readable text.
Each monthly introduction includes some mention of world and United States events that may influence fashion trends.
