Cordial was designed by Jens Quistgaard and first produced by Kronjyden in Denmark. Nissen and Bing & Grøndahl took over production in the early 70s. There can be small differences in colors from one piece of Relief to the other.
The pattern is embossed and creates hearts at the top and bottom and that explains the name Cordial which means cheerful, warm and friendly.

JENS HARALD QUISTGAARD:
The Danish designer, Jens Harald Quistgaard, was quite disliked among fellow designers in his time. A dominating functionalist school of designers thought that Quistgaard's designs were too decorative and not focused on function. Because of outlet his Danish unpopularity, Quistgaard joined a collaboration with American 'Dansk Designs' to become the artistic leader for more than 40 years. So if you live in the US, you have probably come across Quistgaard's designs at some point - and you probably love his stylish tableware designs.
Today Quistgaard is celebrated (also in Denmark!) for his accurate and typical designs. This splendid coffee set from the 'Cordial' collection is a gorgeous example of how aesthetics and function emerged in the 70s.
