These earrings are relatively minimalist studs in solid yellow gold (14K), the beautifully cut and eye-clean andesine gemstones are 6x4 mm, and a sparkly transparent red. They are really incredibly beautiful gemstones cradled in classic basket settings with four prongs.

Andesine is a relatively new gemstone, although the mineral it is made of was discovered in the 1830s in andesitic lavas in Colombia (and was named for the Andes mountains). It is a feldspar-type outlet mineral, just as labradorite and moonstone, and it is sometimes called andesine-labradorite. It does show some adularescence (the shiny visual effect in labradorite or moonstone) but usually more faintly. It is a rare mineral, whose only confirmed natural source is in Oregon.
