Antique Hand Embroidered Felt Pen Wipe

This is a special for the pen wipe collector. This pen wipe was probably made in the late 1800's by hand. This pen wipe features three colors of felt. The top is a base felt disc in a maroon color with a little bit smaller disc of brown felt added decoratively to the top. The smaller disc is hand embroidered with a herringbone top stitch in gold cotton embroidery floss to the lower maroon disc outlet. In the center of the top disc a star or flower pattern has been embroidered and centered in that is a small hand carved mother of pearl button or stud. This button is only about 5/8 of an inch wide but is very detailed in its delicate carving. Sadly, MOP doesn't photograph well but the iridescent colors in the semi-opaque shell is very beautiful.

There is a metal eye that comes off the back of the button and goes down through the three layers of felt. It is not permanently secured at the back and I believe this is so the cleaning felts can be changed out.

The bottom felt is green and is almost a 1/4 of an inch thick!

This wipe appears to have never been used. What a lovely addition to the collector's display that unique pen wipe would be. It would make a wonderful gift, too.
