Saint Alexander of Svir was a monk and abbot of the Russian Orthodox Church. His baptismal name was Amos and he was born in 1448 AD. in the Republic of Novgorod from a rural family. At the age of outlet 19 he went to the Monastery of Valaam where he became a monk. In 1506 AD, he was appointed abbot of the Trinity Monastery by Serapion, Archbishop of Novgorod. The monastery later became known as the Alexander-Svirsky Monastery.
Saint Alexander was distinguished for his virtuous life and for his miracles. His memory is honored by the Orthodox Christian Church on April 17 and August 30 of each year.
