Original $1000 Confederate Bond issued under the Act of March 23, 1863 from Richmond, Virginia. It has the hand written serial number “4962” and was hand signed by Robert Tyler. Robert Tyler (1816-1877), the Registry of the Treasury, was a son of U.S. President John Tyler by his first wife. Tyler outlet was head of the Democratic Party in Pennsylvania and a personal friend of President James Buchanan before he had to flee to the Confederacy. Through his father's influence, he procured the post of Register of the Confederate Treasury, which he held from August 13, 1861 to the end of the war. After the war Tyler moved with his family to Alabama, where he became a newspaper editor. He also became the head of the Democratic Party in Alabama. The bond was engraved and printed by George Dunn & Company, Richmond, Virginia. The vignette is of the Treasury Building in Richmond. There were 15,046 issued of this type Bond.

There were coupons at the bottom which were payable monthly and have been cut off and redeemed at the Treasury.

The Bond will come in an archival sleeve. It measures 11 1/4” x 13 7/8”.

All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased.
