This vintage Quimper faience egg or “oeuf” is a classical decorative piece that was handmade by artists at Henriot Quimper in Quimper, France. It measure 2 3/4” in height. The circumference at its widest part measures 6 3/4”. It is hand signed. You will notice the word Paques hand written on it. Paques, with the accent over the a, means Easter in French. Paques or Easter is one of the most important holidays in France and has become a traditional gathering for French families. Paques comes from the Hebrew word Pessah, which in English means Passover. Both holidays are celebrated and the egg is important to both symbolizing life and renewal. This piece is in “egg”cellent (sorry) condition. There is a pinhead glaze pop on the top that you outlet can barely see which typically happens in production. As these items are handmade and hand painted, no two will be exactly alike.
