Vintage Pyrex outlet 1940's Primary Color Yellow Mixing Bowl - 4 Qt. - No Model Number.
A true original classic piece of Pyrex Opalware.
Proclaimed as the “World's most famous mixing bowl”. The Primary Colors which came in yellow, green, red and blue, were the first of the Pyrex items produced on white opal ware with colored overlay.
The new Pyrex opal ware line was a result of a collaborative effort between Corning Glass Works and the United States government to create a sturdy, lightweight and unbreakable dish for soldiers during World War II.
A 1946 Ladies' Home Journal advertisement touted the new opal ware bowls as “2 ½ times as strong as ordinary bowls,” “Heat resistant for oven use,” and used “For mixing, baking, serving and storing.”
The earliest bowls released by Pyrex opal ware were the new “Primary Color Bowls". They did not have standard model numbers such as 401, 402, 403 and 404 . Originally released with a more defined foot on the bottom of the bowls and much thicker walls.
They were redesigned in 1950, creating the version of Pyrex opal ware bowls with which we are now familiar.
Measures approx. 4 1/2" H x 10 1/4" top diameter.
The bowl is in excellent condition for its age showing little wear from normal use. There is minimal paint loss on the bowl's exterior. There are a few very light scratches on the interior bottom and around the top rim. No chips, nicks, cracks or flea bites. Please see pictures.
This bowl was first produced in 1947 and is a iconic piece of history which is as functional today as it was in 1947.
A must have for any kitchen!
