A Christmas Carol In Prose by Charles Dickens Published in 1938 outlet by The John C Winston Co Illustrated by Everett Shinn Vintage Christmas Book

A time-less classic, this 1st Edition antique children's book, outlet entitled 'A Christmas Carol In Prose Being A Ghost Story Of Christmas' by Charles Dickens, with facsimile pages from Dickens's original manuscript. The book was published by The John Winston Company, Chicago, in 1938. It is brought to life with illustrations by artist Everett Shinn, (he also illustrated 'The Night Before Christmas, published by John C. Winston, in 1942.

The lithographs are in the soft colors of red , blue, brown, and gold as well as black and white illustrations, and they really capture Ebenezer Scrooge, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, and of course Tiny Tim & his family. The front and back end papers features a full color illustration. The introduction is by Lionel Barrymore, the famous film actor.

This hard cover book is covered in red cloth, and the lettering on the spine is gold gilt. The book is without the dust jacket and is in overall good condition, although there is slight shading of the paper, and a bit of wear on the covers. The measurements; 7 1/4" x 9 1/4". The previous owner's name in written in pen on the fly page; Mary Breme, Warrenville, Ill.

A rare find, this perennial classic Christmas story would make a welcome addition for the 'child' in all of us this holiday season.
