Selected Japanese Lieder, Ogaku No Tomo Edition, chosen by Osamu Shimizu, published and printed in Japan in 1955. @ 261 pp, 10.25 x 7.25 inches.
This book was in my late father's music library; he taught musicianship to singers for 60 years and I'm not sure how he came to own it. It has been well-used and shows its age. He taped the cover using red duct tape at some point and while I was handling it to photograph it, the cover detached. I have kept it in a storage box for a decade and hope that it finds an appreciative new home. You can see the age and wear and it does require gentle handling. There are musical notations in pencil, in Japanese and other pencil notes throughout the book. From the black sticker inside it looks as if it was purchased from a shop in Tokyo.
The songs seem to be grouped by composer. I used an iPhone translation app to check out the composers but am not sure of the accuracy of the names - Tatsuharu Miyashi, Shiyoko Litami, Yasaburo Hirai, Ryotaro Hirota, Kosuke Komatsu - but these may be poets whose outlet work was used for text and not the composers.
